From September 3rd to 5th, the European Technical Coatings Congress 2014 will be held in Cologne, Germany. With the focus on “New Functions and Sustainability – Drivers for Future Coatings,” the participants will discuss issues relevant to the coatings industry. Attendees will benefit from presentations about the latest trends, technologies and innovative products.
As one highlight of the conference, Bosch’s Dr. Thomas Brinz and his colleagues will hold a presentation titled “Improving efficiency and quality by High Throughput Technologies in development of coatings” on September 4th at 11 AM. Nowadays, High Throughput Experimentation (HTE) is used more and more for the development of new coating materials, and in the presentation, Dr. Brinz will show the wide variety of formulation, application and characterization modules which are available today.
In combination with Design of Experiment (DoE), new formulations can be produced, applied, and characterized in an automatic manner. The results of his investigations show, for example, that systematic optimization of a coating can be carried out much faster and easier by utilizing DoE and lab automation. Automating the lab work flow and thus preparing a large number of formulations and coated substrates can help to find non-linear behaviors and enable the scientist to quickly optimize coating systems by applying this knowledge.
