Bosch Podium Presentation at the 2018 PDA Glass Quality Conference

Bosch Packaging Technology is pleased to announce its participation at the 2018 PDA Glass Quality Conference, to be held in Washington, DC, on January 23-24, 2018, with a podium presentation by Senior Product Manager Klaus Ullherr. His presentation, titled “Processing of Glass Containers – A Machine Manufacturers Perspective”, will kick off the session on best practices by providing an overview of recent developments and innovation in glass handling for pharmaceutical parenteral containers. The following are a preview of some of the insights Mr. Ullherr will be sharing with the audience:

  • Process analysis shows how glass breakage can be traced to specific issues at any of the manufacturing steps: container raw material sourcing and fabrication, washing, depyrogenation, filling, sterilization, inspection, packaging, and storage
  • Glass inspection technology has evolved and novel solutions are available to detect compromised containers
  • The unit operations and critical areas therein where glass-to-glass contact occurs have been identified and state-of-the-art equipment includes design features that substantially mitigate the risk of breakage
  • Complete avoidance of glass-to-glass contact in the filling line is now possible through the use of puck transport, nested container, and robotics options
  • Where optimization is preferable to new concepts, concrete measures are available to reduce the incidence of breakage
