Why was this blog down for two weeks?

You may have noticed that the Bosch Pharma Blog was unavailable for two weeks at the end of May and beginning of June. Why? Well… a related question… have you noticed that many of your favorite web sites have been displaying banners or messages saying that their privacy policy changed on May 25, and requested that you agree to the new policy?

The answer to both questions is GDPR. GDPR stands for General Data Protection Regulation. GDPR (officially known as “Regulation on the protection of natural persons with regard to the processing of personal data and on the free movement of such data, and repealing Directive 95/46/EC”) is a law made by the European Parliament and Council of the European Union. This law went into effect on May 25, 2018. While made by European entities, the law applies to internet communications and, therefore, has global implications.

GDPR contains provisions and requirements pertaining to the processing of personally identifiable information of individuals. In other words, GDPR regulates some aspects of how data is collected and maintained. This caused organizations to make changes to their methodology for collecting data on the internet and their related privacy policies.

The modification of our blog in response to GDPR took a little longer than we had hoped, but we are back online with all of the news, technical tips, product updates, trade show previews, brochures (and more) that you have found on this blog for 8+ years.

You will notice some changes on the site. For example, the blog requires users to consent to cookies. And, rich media such as videos require consent to enable.
